The "How To" Guide

How to tie a Full Windsor Knot

When tying the knot, do it properly for your photos.

  • Drape the tie over your neck, with the wide end of the tie on your right. The wide end should hang about a foot or so lower than the narrow end.
  • Cross the wide end over the narrow end and bring the wide end up and through the inside of the loop around your neck.
  • Bring the wide end back down, around and behind the narrow end.
  • Pull the wide end up on your right, then put down through loop and across the narrow end.
  • Turn and pass up through the loop around your neck.
  • Complete the knot by pushing the wide end down through the front of the knot.
  • Tighten the knot carefully as you flatten out any wrinkles.
  • Draw the knot snugly up to your collar. Now admire the finished product! - done

How to take Measurements for a Suit

You will need a measuring tape for this one; a fully flexible tape measure made of plastic or cloth

  • Take your measuring tape and start with the inside leg measurement. You should wear a pair of good fitting trousers. Stand naturally with your legs slightly apart. Hold the end of the tape yourself into the crotch at the point where all the seams come together. Ask a friend to measure to the bottom of the leg where the trouser leg should end.  A good idea is to wear a pair of shoes that you will wear with your suit trousers to take this measurement.
  • Measure your chest next. This should be the widest measurement just below the armpits. Don't have the tape measure held too tight or too slack. Raise your arms to allow the person helping you to place the tape around your upper torso, then lower your arms again and stand naturally. When correctly tensioned, it should be possible to comfortably place two fingers between the tape and your body.
  • Measure your waist next. This should be the widest measurement at the waist. Stand naturally and don't hold your stomach in. The tape should be held firmly, but not too tightly either. Again, it should be easily possible to place two fingers between the tape and your body.
  • Measure the seat or hips next. This should be over the widest part of the buttocks. The tape should be held around the body, tight enough to measure accurately, but not so tight that two fingers can't be comfortably placed between the tape and the body.
